Gallery FAQ

What is a gallery inscription?

A gallery is an inscription that contains a list of other inscriptions along with a title and traits for each. There is no provenance. You do not need to own or have anything to do with an inscription to include it in your gallery.

How do I create a gallery?

On the inscriber, check the Attach a Gallery checkbox. This reveals the gallery builder where you can add inscriptions by entering their inscription IDs, titles, and traits.

You can also populate the gallery from a JSON file. This is the metadata JSON that creators typically send to marketplaces for listing.

What should I include?

We recommend setting a title and adding a description trait. If applicable, create the gallery as a child of an inscription that represents the artist or collection.

Here is an example of artist Billy Restey structuring galleries with parent-child inscriptions.

What is the maximum size?

A standard Bitcoin transaction is limited to 400KB. If your gallery exceeds this, you can use MARA Slipstream to submit it.

To use Slipstream:

  1. Check the minimum fee rate on slipstream.mara.com and use that fee rate when inscribing
  2. Check the Skip Broadcast option when inscribing
  3. Sign and download the inscription transactions
  4. Submit the first transaction (commit) via mempool.space/tx/push
  5. Wait for the commit transaction to confirm
  6. Submit the second transaction (reveal) via slipstream.mara.com
